Lift Shafts

The provision of hydraulic lifts within medium rise timber framed buildings is now common practice. Prestoplan provides a lift shaft built in timber frame, including the roof above the overun, to allow the building to be made weather tight at handover.

Within this shaft, the lift support structure is built in either steel, masonry or precast concrete. This internal shaft carries the lift car load but may use the frame for lateral stability. It is most important ,however, that the lift car support structure allows the timber frame to decrease in height without becoming hung up on the lift core. Prestoplan recommends that the allowances made for this purpose are deliberately generous as timber frame distortion due to restricted vertical movement will not correct even if the faulty connections are subsequently released.

A number of lift manufacturers now design lift systems specifically for inclusion in timber framed buildings.
